We’ve reached a point where social media’s too important to pass up, and video’s too powerful a tool not to use on it. The only question is how.
And as a longtime NY / NJ SEO company that’s been doing social media marketing for a while now, we know a thing or two about how video production can help build up your social media presence, so read on for a few ideas.
Take people behind the scenes.
As far as the kinds of videos you need to create for social media use, the possibilities are truly limitless, and really, part of the plan needs to be to create different types of videos to keep your content interesting and viewers engaged.
But perhaps the best way to use video on social media is to create content that takes viewers behind the scenes of your workplace, a current project in progress, etc. Why? Because it’s social media, not a television commercial spot.
Viewers on social sites want authenticity now, not promotional jargon. So, using video to give viewers a glimpse of the real people and actions behind the scenes fits the style and preferences of the social communities perfectly.
Capitalize on buzz.
It’s also important to do what you can to create videos that take advantage of any social buzz, and the good news is that there are trending topic sections on most of the major social sites, and they tend to be pretty popular sources of news for the social communities.
That’s why you need to monitor these sections and get a feel for any buzz in the air that’s relevant to your target audience. Then, try to create a video related, in some way, to the trending topic to ride the wave.
And on top of monitoring the trending topics sections of social sites, you should also do some research on your own to prepare for any upcoming events that appear likely to create some buzz among your target audience, and then incorporate your findings into your video production plan.
Showcase a product, via a story.
If you decide to create videos to showcase any products or services on social media, it’s critical that you don’t approach them like you would product videos intended for any other channel.
We’ve been doing social media marketing and SEO in NY and NJ for long enough to know that for these types of videos to succeed on social media, they can’t be too promotional. The goal, instead, should be to tell a captivating story which introduces the product or service.
Viewers have plenty of alternatives on social media and there are plenty of distractions around them. So, if you go the product/service showcase route, remember that you need to introduce your offering with an engaging story if you want the content to have any chance of success. Those aren’t your only options.
From there, you can’t really go wrong with a how-to video, as long as the content’s relevant to your audience and easy to follow. And pre-roll videos—those short 5-30 second ads that play before other videos—are also great for social sites like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram. The key with them is to grab the viewer’s attention and spark his or her interest fast.
For some tips on that, check out this post from Vidyard, 5 Ways to Make Good Pre-roll Ads, but the bottom line is, those aren’t the only types of videos that tend to work on social media, and no matter which one you go with, the social platforms require a different approach to video production in general. So, while there are plenty of options, you need to be mindful of the preferences and expectations of the various social communities at all times.
