Day to Day

From there, it’s important to keep in mind that each social site has its own communities and rules. With Twitter, for example, 3-6 tweets per day is recommended while with Facebook, 1-2 posts seems to work best.
Once you know where you should be spending your time, it’s essential to respond to any customers, fans, followers, etc., who reach out to you. You simply cannot ignore them.
You also need to be mindful of mentions of your brand in which you’re not tagged so that you can stay in the conversation. There are social monitoring tools available that can help.
And you need to monitor social sites for non-brand-specific industry keywords or phrases as well, and don’t forget the competition either. Keep an eye on what kinds of behavior and content are proving to be most effective for them.
On top of that, you should interact with your brand advocates daily, or those fans or followers who consistently discuss your brand, products, or services in a positive light.
It’s always a good idea to reach out to industry leaders so that you can become a part of their circles and gain credibility, but you also don’t want to annoy them, which is why doing this kind of thing weekly rather than daily is recommended.

You need to track the necessary metrics to see what’s working and what’s not so that you can make the necessary changes going forward.

Once a Month…
As far as monthly duties, you should definitely analyze your performance. Yes, you should take a look at the metrics weekly too, but once a month, you should dive deeper into the data. Think of it as an involved spring cleaning rather than a quick sweep up.
You may find that you need to create new and higher goals or that you need to rethink your strategy completely.
Also, try to attend relevant industry events on a monthly basis so that you can stay in the necessary circles and conversations. You don’t need social media to be social.
You should also hold larger meetings monthly to see if social media could possibly help somewhere else in the organization. There may be other departments that aren’t utilizing social media that would greatly benefit from it if they did.
It’s not easy, but get it right, and the sky’s the limit.
The bottom line is, effective social media marketing takes time and effort. You need to be prepared to perform certain tasks on a daily, weekly, monthly, and even quarterly basis, which is a post all in itself.
