Google’s upcoming real-time Penguin update hasn’t arrived just yet, and last the search engine’s Gary Illyes was heard from, they were aiming to launch the 1st quarter of 2016. To learn more about the basics of the algorithm update, check out this post, Google’s Real-Time Penguin Update and What It Means for SEO.
Today’s post, though, is all about looking a little closer at what the changes could really mean, because as longtime NY / NJ SEO experts, trust us, there’s always more beneath the surface and it’s better to shed some light on it sooner than later.
Pinpointing the problem could get more complicated.
In the past, it’s never been all that difficult to see if you slipped up somewhere in your SEO and your website had accrued some type of algorithmic penalty. You’d simply have to match the symptom of the problem with the date of algorithm updates.
Now, there will be no more announcements of major updates and therefore no more dates to reference, so businesses, marketers, and SEO specialists will have to find and analyze a lot more information to diagnose issues.
Now, there are plenty of tools available that can help to identify the sources of problems with traffic, links, etc., so it’s not that the problem is unsolvable. It’s just that the process could soon get much more difficult, and it may also become easier than ever to misdiagnose the issue.
Real time does not mean instant and recrawling pages could still take time, so even if you’re keeping track of website changes, they may not match up with the resulting penalties. Also, people may mistake changes that affect their search ranking which are brought on by additional algorithmic changes as penalties.
The point is, as a result of the upcoming real-time update, it could soon get a lot harder to diagnose issues while, at the same time, a lot easier to misdiagnose them. There will be new lows.
While many businesses, marketers, and SEO companies scramble to make the right adjustments when a major search engine algorithm update is launched, there are always others that start immediately looking for new ways to scam their way up the rankings.
That doesn’t look to be changing with this latest upcoming update, and with the ability to find out, in real time, what they can get away with, for how long they can get away with it, and what needs to be done to recover from their devious tactics, black-hat SEOs have a few new tools to work with.
The good news is, as black-hatters test the waters to see how they can cheat, the rest of us can stop worrying about the next big algorithm update and when, exactly, it’s going to happen.
Because we’ve been doing SEO in NY and NJ for a long time and take it from us, the sooner that you can start putting your attention where it should be—on providing a quality user experience and moving up the rankings the right way—the better.
Start preparing ASAP.
The bottom line is, the real-time update’s coming whether you like it or not, so it’s better to start preparing and adjusting now rather than waiting until it’s too late.
And while the basics are that sites will soon be penalized faster for bad practices as well as have the ability to recover faster from penalties, there are other issues to consider, such as the fact that it could get a lot harder to pinpoint problems and that the update will likely give birth to new kinds of black-hat tactics.
So, do what you can to ready yourself for these changes and, look at the bright side. The SERPs will be better as a result, and as long as you’re not trying to deceive your way up them, that’s a good thing.
