More and more businesses and marketers are seeing engagement with their social media marketing efforts drop, in many cases relatively drastically. Why?
Well, there are a few reasons, but mainly because they’re still doing the same things they’ve always done and expecting the same results, but that’s not working. So, our NY / NJ SEO experts decided to take a closer look at what’s going on and what is working.
What’s the problem?
First off, it’s worth mentioning that it’s truly engagement that’s the main culprit here. Many brands aren’t having any problems as much as doubling their Facebook fans, Instagram and Twitter followers, etc.
But they are having problems, big problems, getting all those people to interact on those same platforms, and the same goes for content marketing in general. There’s plenty content being created, yet very little engagement and interaction.
One of the issues is that more and more of the major social media players are asking brands to pay for visibility on their platforms, so organic social search doesn’t present the same opportunities that it once did.
On top of that, there’s simply more content to compete with than ever before on all the social sites, so it’s gotten harder than ever to get people to take the time to actually engage with it.
What should you do?
Like always, the best thing to do, the only thing to do, is adapt. You can’t just keep creating the same kind of content and behaving the same exact way in your social media marketing and expect everything to just go back to the way it was.
You need to come to terms with the fact that acquiring a whole bunch of fans and followers doesn’t mean what it used to, and that people want dynamic content now, and they want it where they want it, when they want it.
When it comes to increasing interaction and engagement, specifically, you can’t wait for it to miraculously happen anymore. You need to reach out and talk to people and feature them in your posts and content.
And take it from us as longtime NY and NJ SEO specialists, if you can encourage some user-generated content, that’s even better. For some tips on that, check out this post, How Social Media Marketing Can Help Generate User Content.
Things aren’t going to stop changing.
While the way to get people to engage via social media has changed a lot in a relatively short amount of time, you need to remain mindful of the fact that it’s not going to stop changing any time soon.
There will only be more channels, more communities with their own behaviors and sets of preferences, and more ways to connect with them in the future. So, the only thing you can do is try to keep up. We hope these tips help!
