Far too many people still think that they need a website up before they can even start thinking about search engine optimization, but the truth is, while people can’t find a site that doesn’t exist yet, there are things you can do before launching one so that once it is up, finding it will be a whole lot easier.
And as an SEO company that’s offered website design in NY and NJ for a while now, we have a lot of experience in that area, so we decided to put together a few tips that should help.
1. Prepare blogs and guest blog.
The web crawlers won’t wait to index your site and once it’s launched, you’ll need a steady stream of relevant, well-optimized content. So, it helps to have as much high-quality content up as possible once your site’s live, and preparing a dozen or so blogs, pre-launch, is a great way to start.
From there, guest blogging on sites that you find useful or effective and/or that have communities that may be interested in your own upcoming site and content is a great way to start building some credibility as well as links.
You just need to take the time to get a feel for the kinds of content and posts that these various communities prefer before creating anything, but the point is, you can start generating some traffic to your site before it’s actually been launched by getting into your content marketing ASAP.
Now, you’re probably thinking, what good’s a link if the site’s not up yet? And that brings us to the next tip…
2. Create a “Coming Soon” page.
“Coming Soon” pages can reduce the time you need to wait to get ranked by the search engines—just make sure they’re optimized properly—and can help to create some buzz around your upcoming site.
They don’t just have to say the words, “Coming Soon,” either. You should also include all the basic information about your business and upcoming site, such as your company overview, logo, contact info, mission statement, staff bios, etc.
On top of that, you can use high-quality images or even videos, and you can start generating some leads by including calls to action or perhaps by passing on helpful resources or content.
Just make sure to connect these pages with your social profiles to get that buzz going (more on that in the next section) and take it from us SEO specialists who’ve been doing website design in NY and NJ for years now, you always need to remember to take on your brand’s identity and tone when creating content for these pages.
3. Start building up your social presence.
Another mistake many make is waiting to get to their social media marketing until their site is launched, but by doing things that way, it’ll be that much harder to create any hype about your site.
So, get your profiles set up on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and/or any other social sites that can help. For some tips on finding the right ones, check out this post, Tips to Find the Right Social Media Fit for Your Brand.
Post and share relevant, quality content and do whatever else you can to build a following. Then, connect your profiles with your “Coming Soon” page and give updates about the launch to keep the buzz going.
Don’t start at the bottom.
There’s plenty more you can do pre-launch to help improve your search chances, but the bottom line is, while it’s completely possible to launch a website without doing any SEO-related work first, it will likely result in you starting at the bottom, facing a long climb back up the rankings.
So, why start at the bottom? Don’t, and take some pre-launch SEO-related measures to ensure that you start in stride instead.
